I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and have been licensed in New Mexico since 2011. I received my Master’s Degree in Counselor Education and my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies both from The University of New Mexico. Also, I have completed focused training in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Gottman Couples Therapy. I spent the first 10 years of my career working primarily with individuals who struggled with substance dependence and had the honor of running Relapse Prevention groups as well as Parenting Groups. My current focus and passion is working with couples.
I was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and spent the early part of my childhood growing up in Phoenix, AZ. My father immigrated to the United States from Iran when he was 18 years old and he met my mother, a small-town girl from the Midwest. My Persian culture has always been a huge part of my life and a central piece of my cultural identity. I love to take part in the traditional holidays and celebrations and have a strong connection with the Persian community in New Mexico.
I believe that growing up with parents who come from two very different parts of the world has helped me have an openness to diversity. I love learning about other people’s backgrounds and families and have a deep respect for traditions, cultural norms and how two very different people can come together and create a beautiful relationship and family.
In my free time I like to spend time with my family, tend to our garden, arrange flowers, paint, go shopping and listen to music.
